RE: Which do you prefer?

I really prefer going with just my wife or with our kids, who are grown. Many times some close friends go along and that is fine, but I get more rest with just my wife. Ilove her and it is a great time to just be with her. Ken

RE: Look what we found...

I've been by that park a lot. We live 120 miles from Amarillo. I didn't know it was that bad. We usually stay at Amarillo Ranch RV park, just to spend a few days away from the farm. I think they are a Passport America Park. That park you show is close to the airport. I avoid all of those parks, and usually go into town, or the west end. Thanks for the pictures.

RE: reese 5th wheel hitch manual

I had a 20K Pro series, and it had a sticker on the side that had all the instructions for hitching and unhitching. After I read the sticker, I found hitching was much easier. I didn't have a manual either.

RE: Hitch on the rear of camper

My dealer installed one on ours last year so we could carry our generator. He purchased a regular receiver hitch, put a lot of bracing on the frame and welded the hitch to our frame. Seems to be solid as a rock. I ask about warranty, and he said we installed they would take care if any problem would arise. I've dealt with this dealer for several years, and yes they will take care of me. I imagine it could void warranty. All we carry is the generator, which is mounted in a receiver carrier. They did a beautiful job with the work, and everything works fine. Don't do it if your dealer won't stand behind what you do.

RE: Bathrooms

We love our bathroom all in one. This is our second unit with the same design and it works great. The room is large enough to let you move around and the shower if very large. another thing my wife likes is there is an extra sink in the bedroom area. That is her sink, and mine is in the bathroom. I have seen those that were so small you could not turn around. That would not be fun, but this unit is plenty large. Our son is in the Navy flying jets. He will join us at times. I don't think he would shower in the trailer if he had to go up in our bed room to do it. He is very modest, and loves the enclosed bath. I'm not sure why he is still modest after two carrier cruises. I came back from Portugal to Virginia on the Carl Vinson with him, and there is not much privacy. I was fortunate in that I got to stay in an officers room, with another pilot. I went into then enlisted mens room, and boy no privacy. Enough said. We just like the privacy.

RE: New to the forum

Welcome aboard captain. I'm an old dirt farmer, so we are very different except we share on e passion and that is Rving. Hope you learn a lot, and I'm sure you will have some good advice to give us.

RE: Which 5th Wheel Hitch to get? New 5th Wheel owner

I started with manual sliders. They worked but sort of a pain in the neck. When I got an extended pin box, I bought a 20K Reese that did not slide. I really liked the hitch, and used it for about 4 years. We traded for another trailer that had the Mor Ride pin box. This box is a little shorter then the old one. I made it fine until I sent the guy that works for me over to Amarillo for a short repair job. On the way home that day he pulled into a Dairy Queen, and was watching the tires that he did not turn them too short. He forgot to watch the truck and trailer. He took out my rear window. Got that fixed and finished out the season with no problems. This winter we ordered the Super Glide, and it works like a charm. This should be the last hitch I will ever own.

RE: To Bolt or not to Bolt, that is the question

Our current unit was picked up last May. We made a trip to Branson. Our son is a Navy jet pilot, and wanted to met us and stay a few days in the camper. He flew into Tulsa and we stopped and picked him up. He slept on the hide a bed. We got up the next day and it had turned into a V. The legs float while the slide is out, and with somebody sleeping on the couch the legs went down. We had to put something under the legs so the bed would stay flat. I got home and had several warranty issues. The dealer said they had not bolted down the couch. In this unit the couch must be bolted down. I suppose if you don't want yours bolted that is fine. It all depends on the unit. Ours must be bolted if somebody sleeps on the bed.

RE: Entry Door Gas Strut

We've had two units with the gas struts. They have their plus, but can also cause some problems. If the wind gets up you just about have to shut the door, as it starts banging. We had the strut go out after 1 1/2 years, and put on a new one. Also the thing was coming loose and had to be remounted with heavier hardware. Our current 5th is the same setup and will also probably need to be remounted some day.

RE: Lookin for a family friendly place to go near Branson, MO

Last year we stayed at Compton Ridge. Our friends like the CG because it has a lot of things to do, especially for kids. We thought it was a nice place, but we didn't need to spend as much money per night since we didn't have kids. I do recommend the CG, but next time we will probably go to a cheaper place. Compton has 2 swimming pools tennis courts, basketball, game room, and other things. Great place for large groups and kids. Very close to Silver Dollar City.

RE: When comparing rigs does the dealership make a difference?

We have a hitchhiker dealer about 50 miles away. We really wanted one, but the dealer acted like a jerk. Went to our regular dealer in Amarillo Tx and bought another unit there. I really want the HH, but passed due to the dealer. We knew Dickie Stout would always stand behind us and take care of things. They have proved that all year long. In my opinion dealers are very important.

RE: Unhooking fifth wheel with no help!

I know you probably know all the basics, however; if you were like me my wife helps me not to forget. Maybe a short list would help. anyway always chock as others said, then unhook. I use to have troubles hooking up, and finally read the instructions to the hitch. Boy did that make it easier. I've had to hitch and unhitch many times, and yes it is harder. I'm sure you can get help. We are very sorry for the loss of your wife. God bless you, and I hope you have a great time camping.

RE: First Mor-Ryde pin box trip results

The trailer we bought last May came with the Mor Ride hitch and suspension. Yes it made a lot of difference. This trailer was identical floodplain to the one we traded in. You could really tell that Mor Ride helped.

RE: Alfa leisure

I started off with Alfa. They are a beautiful trailer. However; we couldn't stay out of the shop. We kept the Alfa Gold about 1 year and got rid of it. Last year our dealer dropped the Alfa line. They told me it was due to customer complaints. I understand most trailers will have a few items wrong, but Alfa was out of control. I might have kept it another year, and got the bugs out and everything would have been fine. It would have saved me money.

RE: Lubrication of superglide

I just did mine. We took it apart, and cleaned the tubes. Then we sprayed on the slip plate. We also applied it to the cam part that rubs on the tubes. When we installed the way tubes after a night of drying we still peeled off part of the slip plate. We just touched it up, and everything seems to be OK. I pulled the trailer, and now it needs to be touched up again. Probably next spring I will tear it down again and clean and spray. I take mine out since I'm a farmer and don't want dirt on the way tubes. Hopefully if I do get some dirt I can just take a power washer and clean it up, without a complete tear down. Guess we will wait and see about that.

RE: How good are Roto Chokes?

Rotochocks only way to go. Mine suddenly don't fit any more. Mor Ride changed some things, because they didn't want the tires so close together. Now I have to much distance between the tires. I'll call Pearl and see what she says. I need to measure the distance, just been to lazy to get over to the storage building and do it. Memorial week will be the first week out, so I'll get it done.

RE: lock on 5th wheel so cannot be stolen

Normally I don't miss with a lock. I have Rotochocks for the wheels, and they have a place for a lock. I've also used kingpin locks. Either should lock.

Getting on RV net in evenings.

Just wondered if I have problems with my system in the evenings, or is everyone having troubles getting on in the PM.

RE: power awning are they good or not?

We had one on a 2003. If the temperature went up the awning would just role up. A small amount of wind and it also rolled up. I guess the good thing, if a storm came up just hit a button and don't worry about getting your awning tore up. Our current awning is manual. I'm short and it is very high. I have to stand on a ladder. Its fine in the mountains where we don't have the strong winds. Here on the plains we just don't put it out. Just too much wind.

RE: Slide Proper extend/retract sequence with rear stabalizers

It's just a good policy to level, then put down stabilizers, then put out slides. Most manuals will say this. I have put out slides for a temporary stop without stabilizers down, but don't like doing it that way.
